At The Cape sustainable housing estate in Cape Paterson, TSLC have designed and constructed a large scale, water efficient and highly productive urban farm. The community farm is super low maintenance and includes a nursery, composting areas, over 500 sq meters of water efficient wicking beds and has the ability to produce tonnes of fresh vegetables and herbs each year for the local community.
This farm showcases The Cape’s commitment to sustainability by ensuring residents have access to fresh, local food. It is nestled within the broader landscape of The Cape which has also been constructed by TSLC, and includes a dog park, walkways, wetlands, a playground, biodiversity plantings, and much more.
The farm integrates nutrient cycling, water efficiency, rainwater harvesting, habitat zones, social spaces, a productive nursery, wind protection, composting and much more and can produce well over $150,000 of fresh produce per annum. The farm has a combination of individual and community plots, featuring a range of different food growing approaches including over 350 Foodcube wicking beds, and proves that well designed urban farms can grow food in many contexts, including exposed coastal locations.
