The Sustainable Coffee Company

This edible garden project was undertaken for The Sustainable Coffee Company roastery in Port Melbourne. They wanted to turn the organic by-products of the coffee roasting process into a value-adding input for a vegetable garden. We designed a landscape which turned 2 car-parking spaces into a productive, self-watering urban farm, complemented by a seating area for employees to relax and enjoy the amenity. This garden has produced 25 kilos of produce per square metre, captured rainwater in a concrete environment, and drawn a diverse range of insect and bird species to an otherwise industrial area. Winning the Landscaping Victoria Master Landscape Award for Sustainable Landscapes 2019, it has also hosted many educational groups and been the subject of a Gardening Australia segment.
